Sleeves made from hemp, use fleece liners

ColcaSac has expanded its series of protective cases beyond just MacBook offerings, with several new sleeves designed for the iPad, iPhone and iPods. The company delivers handmade sleeves and cases using environmentally friendly fabrics such as jute and hemp, considered to be stronger than cotton. The sleeves use polyester Sherpa fleece for the interior lining, protecting the device from scratches while adding cushioning.

The company was already carrying seven MacBook sleeves and is now adding two sleeve styles for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPod classic. The Original is a natural color with a blue fleece liner, while the ColcaSac is black with white fleece. Both are open-end, slide-in style sleeves available for $10.

Listed as coming soon, the new iPad Case is a slide-in sleeve with a fold-over flap secured by Velcro. The new sleeves are made in the USA and come in five color styles. The ColcaSac is brown with white fleece, while the Black ColcaSac is black with white fleece; Passion Vine is pink with printed designs and white fleece. The Original is natural with blue fleece and Red Delicious is red with white fleece. Each iPad sleeve costs $30.

    Eco Friendly Products

The invention of synthetic fibers like rayon and polyester revolutionized the textile and clothing industries. But the manufacturing process left a lot to be desired. Polyester, for example, is made from petroleum. Producing it and other synthetic fabrics leaves behind a legacy of emissions, volatile organic compounds and dangerous gases like hydrogen chloride. Toxic solvents used to treat and dye these fabrics pollute the air and waterways. Even the much-beloved cotton fiber has been criticized because of the substantial water and pesticides used to grow it. An eco-friendly fiber is one that is sustainable, locally sourced (when possible) and most importantly, free from harmful chemicals.
