Elonex iDock XL, Aero, 710EB reader debut
Elonex used the occasion of the UK's Gadget Show Live to unveil two iPhone-capable video docks and a rare color LCD reader. The iDock Aero gives the iPhone or iPod touch a protective case that doubles as a wireless video transmitter for a TV. It can stay in the shell to dock to an included cradle and uses the direct physical connection for video output.
Its sibling the iDock XL is a self-contained video viewer and will dock an iPhone or iPod in a nook underneath a 10-inch, 800x480 LCD. Elonex has made it semi-portable as it can play four hours of video on its own battery; it can be swapped out for a replacement for particularly long sessions.
In a minor surprise, the company has also decided to enter e-readers with an LCD-based design closer to a device like the iPad than the e-paper-based Kindle. The 710EB is much smaller than its Apple counterpart at 7 inches and lacks a web browser or apps, but it can get online to reach the company's bookstore as well as play music and show photos.
Both the iDock XL and 710EB are due in May and will cost £149 and £99 ($229 and $159). The iDock Aero arrives last, coming in June at £149. [via Engadget]
