Works with HTML, Java to produce apps

MacNN has reviewed NimbleKit, a framework for Xcode that allows users to write simple apps for Apple handhelds without having to work in Objective C. It uses tools like HTML, JavaScript and CSS, including a JavaScript API that bridges between a user's code and the iPhone OS. This allows the creation of native iPhone controls with a JavaScript function call.

The software is said to make it easy to create iPhone controls in a short period of time, thanks in part to a quick learning curve. It can introduce memory problems however, and the animation capabilities of NimbleKit-built apps are hampered. Documentation is also a limiting factor, as while the framework is aimed at developers who may want to sidestep Xcode, it offers little info on dealing with Xcode when it is needed.

Payment for NimbleKit is not required until an app is submitted to the App Store. At that point the software costs $100.
