Company 'optimistic' about other platforms

French company Gameloft, one of the largest mobile game publishers in the world, reports that in the first quarter of 2010, iPhone apps accounted for 21 percent of its sales. The number compares against a figure for the whole of 2009, during which iPhone games represented only 14 percent of the company's sales. Some 63 Gameloft titles are at the App Store, including N.O.V.A., Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front and Earthworm Jim.

The outfit's overall revenues reached $43.7 million in the quarter, a 7 percent growth year-over-year, and a rise of 3.8 percent versus Q4 2009. Officially the company says it is optimistic about other phones, including those from Palm, Samsung, Nokia and Google. Even Google's popular Android platform, however, is believed to represent only a fraction of the games available for Apple devices.
