Most Cydia apps remain without iPad updates

Quickly following up on an earlier announcement, the unofficial iPhone Dev Team has released an updated public version of Spirit, which can be used to jailbreak the iPad as well as the iPhone and iPod touch. Clients are available for both Mac and Windows systems, and the hack is said to work untethered with any Apple handheld using v3.1.2, v3.1.3 or v3.2 firmware.

Users must, however, already have an activated device, and restore it if they are currently using a tethered jailbreak. It's also cautioned that people should not upgrade if they have an unlocked iPhone 3G or 3GS. iPad support is described as "sort of beta," in part because Cydia -- which Spirit installs -- hosts a number of apps not meant for the iPad, potentially requiring a restore. One title known to work on the iPad so far is Backgrounder, which allows multitasking without iPhone 4.0.
