Tweetie 2 drops from iTunes, hints at official Twitter app

Official app could come soon
An official Twitter app may be imminent for the iPhone and iPod touch, App Store developments suggest. Tweetie 2, one of the most popular paid Twitter clients, has been pulled from iTunes. Developer Atebits was just recently acquired by Twitter with the express purpose of producing official apps, including one for the iPad.
Adding to the evidence for an official iPhone release in the near future is the very last Tweetie 2 update, which had a hidden message claiming that Twitter for iPhone would be "coming soon." What features the new client might have are still in the air, although it is likely to emphasize the latest API additions, such as points of interest. The app is also expected to be a way for Twitter to generate profit, whether by retaining Tweetie's upfront cost or by using advertising.

the big fear
among current Tweetie users (based on the horrible "coming soon" advertisement in the last update), that they will go to a ad-supported model that screws over the present customers who all paid for the app.
