Features multiple alarm settings, Li-ion battery

Audio specialist iHome has launched the iP49, a new portable speaker system for iPhones and iPods. The unit folds for travel, but is still said to produce 20W of output using four neodymium compression drivers. Equalizer controls improve bass, treble or simulated 3D effects. Clock functions allow listeners to set separate weekday and weekend alarms, as well as custom snooze times, and toggles for DST and gradual wake or sleep.

Alarm and sleep modes can be set to use iPhone/iPod audio -- including playlists, when waking -- or else FM radio. Up to six FM presets can be saved. Miscellaneous features include a line-in jack for other audio sources, and more essentially the choice of using either an AC adapter or an internal lithium-ion battery for power. The life of the latter hasn't been published.

iHome is selling the the iP49 online and at retail for $160. Bundled with it is a carrying case, an AC adapter, and dock inserts for most iPod and all iPhone models.
