Rush of app updates likely before Monday

Some of the first iOS 4-compatible apps are beginning to reach the App Store, investigation shows. While these are still relatively few, one of the first is Dropbox 1.2.2, a client for the popular file sync service. Beyond iOS 4 support the update incorporates just small fixes, such as problem with the scroll bar jumping when touching it.

A flurry of app updates is likely to arrive in advance of Monday, when Apple is scheduled to seed iOS 4 to the public through iTunes. The firmware will bring several important features to Apple handhelds, most notably multitasking, which in some cases will require custom code to fully exploit. It will also be Apple's first total firmware update to be free on the iPod touch, and also to exclude first-gen iOS devices. An exception to the latter point is the iPad, which will only get iOS 4 in the fall.
