DC Comics joins list of iPad, iPhone comics apps

Also becomes available through ComicsX

DC Comics has launched its first official e-reader app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The software lets users buy and read a host of comics, including titles from mainstream collections like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, as well more niche selections like Fables, The Sandman and V for Vendetta. Most issues are $2 each, some may cost $3.

People can read using either a full-screen view, or a more closely guided one which transitions from pane to pane. The arrival of DC fills an important publishing gap at the App Store, particularly for the iPad, which is the preferred medium for comic readers due to its screen size. The company was beaten to the iPad by Marvel Comics, which has had an app available since the device's launch.

DC comics are now also available through comiXology's app. This includes sublabels, namely Vertigo and Wildstorm.
