VP announces Anquet Maps for Mac and iPhone

updated 10:30 pm EDT, Tue July 13, 2010

Create and track map routes

Virtual Programming has announced that its mapping software, Anquet Maps, is now available for both the Mac and iPhone. The program allows users to plan and edit routes on digital maps, or signify points-of-interest throughout the path. Both versions provide a wide range of travel-based information, such as maximum and minimum altitudes or estimated travel times. Users can also look up information based on National Grid coordinates or longitude and latitude, which can then be added as destinations on the route.

The iPhone version offers some additional features including live navigation, route tracking, and data logs for average speed and distanced traveled. Text notes can also be created and referenced at later times. With Anquet Maps for Mac however, users can print out maps or export them to the iPhone.

Anquet Maps for the Mac is available as a free download, but has maps priced at approximately $12 each. The iPhone version costs about €20 for customers in the UK, or $35 USD for the US copy.

    Can only find UK maps

I was interested in testing out plotting features in this map application but could only find access to UK maps through the desktop application's options and store. If you have compatible maps for other locations they may work, but if you're looking for access to any non-UK maps directly through the application and it's store, I couldn't find any.

    Link?

Any particular reason articles such as this one contain *extremely* annoying links that pop-up ads, but no link to the product's manufacturer's site? At least none that I can see. Going to Google takes me away from MacNN and I usually stay away for the session after that. A link that opened in a new tab or new window would do the trick.
