Sensgard shows ultra-simple ZEM headphones

Sensgard, which traditionally specializes in producing hearing protection gear, has introduced its ZEM headphones. They use a simple amplifier for purportedly reproducing purer sound and cancel background noise using a proprietary technique from acoustic researcher Dr. Jozef Zwislocki. The noise cancellation is non-electronic, relying on a physics-based sound filter that reduces noise in low- and high-frequency ranges, with a noise reduction of up to 37dB.

The lack of any electronic gear reduces both the cost and weight of the headphones, which weigh in at 2oz and do not require batteries. Two tiny, electro-magnetic receivers act as electro-mechanical amplifiers. They provide a frequency response of between 20Hz and 20,000Hz and a sensitivity of 110.5dB at 1,500Hz.

The headphones fold for portability and connect with a relatively long 52-inch cord. ZEM headphones are available at $90.
