App developers made to switch to Mac tool
Beginning on July 22nd, iOS developers will no longer be able to submit or update apps via the iTunes Connect web interface. An e-mail notice from Apple informs that people will instead be required to use Application Loader, the dedicated Mac client. "Application Loader offers fast uploading, a more stable connection, and early validation warnings," the message claims. The web option dates back to the origins of the App Store in 2008.
Application Loader comes as part of the latest iPhone SDKs, beginning with SDK 3.2. Apple notes, critically, that the client has also been updated to support binaries with in-app purchase options. "Make sure the status of your app in iTunes Connect is Waiting for Upload before you submit your binary through Application Loader," the e-mail cautions.
