OtterBox intros new Defender model

OtterBox has announced three iPhone 4 cases, at the same time as WaterField has released new Apple Wireless Keyboard cases. The OtterBox Defender is a multi-layer ruggedized case, with a polycarbonate shell made of shatter-resistant material, and a clear screen cover built in. A swiveling belt clip is included, and a silicone skin wraps around and locks into the shell. In light of Apple's recent iPhone 4 reception issues, OtterBox is marketing the Defender as NAC tested for preventing signal problems.

The Commuter is another silicone and polycarbonate case, with a screen protector and a smooth exterior finish. The power, volume and Home buttons are covered, and silicone plugs flip open for access to the dock connector and the headphone jack. Lastly, the Impact case is a simple silicone skin with a screen protector.

OtterBox is shipping the Defender for $50 after a 7 to 10 day wait. The $35 Commuter and $20 Impact are listed as coming soon.

The WaterField keyboard cases are designed for people traveling with a MacBook or iPad. The Socket is a simple black pouch with padding and a scratch-free interior. The Slip Case is a slim ballistic nylon design with a soft, lightly-padded liner; six color options are available for the trim. The Sleeve is a neoprene-cushioned case in a black water-resistant shell, with a rubberized slip-resistant base and a snap enclosure.

The Travel Case holds a keyboard alongside other notebook or iPad gear. The interior's compartments cradle the keyboard, a mouse, a power supply and a power cord. Padded lining keeps each item protected with self-locking zippers. An outside front pocket with mesh dividers stores additional items.

The Socket and the Slip Case are $15 and $30, and currently shipping. The Sleeve comes in short or long lengths for $40 or $42. Although the short version is due to ship in early August, the long version is available now. The Travel Case should ship August 12th at a cost of $50.
