OnStar Android, iPhone apps expand to most 2011 GM cars

OnStar mobile apps go beyond Volt

GM today expanded its OnStar mobile apps to cover more cars than just the Chevy Volt. Both the Android and iOS apps for the brands will now monitor and sometimes control most 2011 model year Buick, Cadillac, Chevy and GMC vehicles. Drivers will have the option of remotely starting the car, unlocking it or triggering the horn; the approach can work over any Internet connection.

The service also provides diagnostics based on the last time the car was started. Owners can check metrics like fuel economy and the odometer reading but also traits that aren't always reported remotely, such as the level of fuel, tire pressure and the expected remaining useful lifetime of the oil. OnStar itself is logically given a quick-dial shortcut.

Both the Android and iOS apps on the market already have the features enabled, but the ability to use the features will be dictated by the availability of the cars themselves. More features are promised for Buick and GMC customers, but their apps are only due in coming months and will be detailed closer to when they go live.

    WOW !!!!

I too am an Onstar subscriber with an older vehicle. I have a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe and Can't afford a new car at the moment. Why am I not afforded the same service when I pay for service. I have been a faithful subscriber for years until now. I am seriously thinking that I may cancel this service and take my chances in an accident. I can surely save money in case of a locksmith and I really don't need to be reminded that my oil needs to be changed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
