Papers also adds iOS, iPhone 4 support
Readdle has launched ReaddleDocs for iPad 1.5, an update to the document management iPad app, while Mekentosj BV has updated its PDF app, Papers 1.8. ReaddleDocs allows iPad users to view and manage documents, open large PDFs, launch links, extract text, search content, or open protected files. It also allows the iPad to behave like a wireless flash drive, making it possible to wirelessly copy files from a Mac or PC to the iPad. Users can access iDisk, Dropbox and Google Docs, along with some NAS drives. In addition to PDFs, ReaddleDocs can also read iWork content or Office documents created in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
Version 1.5 brings highlighted text support in PDFs, with multiple color options, and allows notes to be added anywhere in the file. Annotations are saved within the documents via PDF specifications for later access and sharing. The app is now capable of editing annotations that were originally added in Apple's Preview or Adobe's Acrobat Reader. The app costs $5 on the iTunes App Store.
Papers allows iOS users to carry their research literature database on an iPad or iPhone. It can search the literature database by author or journal and can organize the library into collections. It has a built-in PDF viewer and a search engine for finding new articles, which can then be downloaded to the iPad. It syncs with a Mac using Papers for Mac OS X.
Version 1.8 also focuses on annotations, allowing users to highlight and add notes to PDFs in the app. The update does not allow for annotations to be exported, synced or emailed, but those features are promised for the next update. The latest version also adds iPhone support for fast app switching and Retina display optimization. Papers 1.8 is $15 on the iTunes App Store -- it works on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
