iPod event may not veer from September target

Apple's by now traditional iPod-oriented event is tentatively penned in for mid-September, tipsters said Wednesday. Multiple contacts indicated to AllThingsD both that the event was still on tap and was being locked in for roughly a month from now. They didn't provide insight as to what was slated for the event by themselves.

This year, most expect a new iPod touch with a front camera for FaceTime as well as a rear example and a Retina Display. A new iPod nano is similarly anticipated and may be joined by a significant redesign of the iPod shuffle, possibly influenced by a new extra-small touchscreen.

Prior years have often included iTunes software updates and may bring an update to address a cloud-based Apple TV, although it's unknown whether the device, if real at all, would be ready in time for next month.

    GPS?

If the new iPod Touch offers a GPS option, I would see no real reason to hold on to my iPhone. We'll just have to see.

    iOS 4?

Would this also be when they would launch the iOS4 for iPad?
