App Store clocks over 20,000 iPad titles

iPad selection still dwarfed by iPhone, iPod apps
The iPad has achieved a major milestone with over 20,000 native apps now being present at the App Store. The progress is relatively quick, as the 10,000 mark was hit in June, and the iPad itself only launched on April 3rd. For comparison, the App Store as a whole only achieved 20,000 titles in February 2009, some seven months after its opening.
iPad apps are vastly outnumbered, though, by those available for the iPhone and iPod touch. The last official total for the App Store was over 225,000 titles, translating into an iPhone to iPad ratio of more than 10 to 1. iPad support requires extra development however, and many iPad apps are more expensive than their iPhone-only counterparts. On top of this, some iPhone apps can be used comfortably as-is on the larger device, leaving less reason for developers to upgrade them.
