iPad shipping down to 1-3 days; App Store nears 250K apps

Nearly 50,000 apps removed

iPad shipping times have fallen at the online Apple Store for a second time in less than a week. Orders should now go out in one to three days; just last Wednesday, times had shrunk to three to five days. For some time previous iPads were stuck at seven to 10 days. The figures suggest that Apple is finally meeting demand, although whether this is because of cooling sales or better manufacturing is uncertain.

The App Store is meanwhile reported to be closing in on 250,000 available apps. An official announcement is likely to happen shortly after the milestone is reached. The number may be somewhat deceptive though, as the number of lifetime approved apps is closer to 300,000. Roughly 50,000 have either been pulled by Apple or taken down voluntarily by their developers.

    Huh?

The App Store is meanwhile reported to be closing in on 250,000 available apps... The number may be somewhat deceptive though, as the number of lifetime approved apps is closer to 300,000.

How is the number somewhat deceptive? There are 250,000 available apps. More have been approved by taken down? Who cares? Should we say it's really deceptive because it doesn't count all the apps that haven't been approved? Should we mention it's really, really deceptive because it doesn't count any of the web-based iPhone apps at all? And why stop there. The number is just off-the-charts deceptive considering all the apps that were started but never submitted at all!

In fact, 250,000 is so deceptive it sounds like some lame FUD being spread by Google about the lameness of Apple's application offerings! If Apple decides to announce such a highly deceptive number as 250,000 apps, I think we should be demanding an SEC investigation and file a class-action lawsuit against Apple for deceiving their investors with such numbers.

Are they now talking about cooling demand?

These analysts or pundits just jump from one theory to another. On one hand, they're talking about tablets taking over the media consumption industry and unit sales hitting the tens of millions. On the other hand, they're somewhat implying that tablet demand is cooling off suddenly. Odds are that iPad demand is still growing. Apple is not stupid enough to begin ramping up production to cooling demand. All indications is that iPad demand is just starting to grow. The indications would be increased gaming and companies that distribute media are jumping to get on the iPad platform. I'd have to say that their uncertainty pointing towards cooling demand is total BS.

    No, they aren't.

The only one mentioning cooling demand is MacNN, who even said the reason was uncertain.

So stop seeing some stupid article and just reacting "OMG! Someone's attacking apple!" without actually reading and comprehending what is being said.
