Also covers Nokia, Windows Phone devices

Microsoft has begun enabling Exchange ActiveSync support for Hotmail users, reports say. The technology should allow push synchronization with a number of mobile devices, most notably the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Also supported are Windows Phone 7 and Windows Mobile 6.x devices, as well as Nokia E-, S- and N-series phones.

Conspicuously absent in the compatibility list is Android, although it may be possible to toggle ActiveSync on for some Android 2.2 devices using the default e-mail app, or else Touchdown. The v2.1 firmware isn't supported due to "known client issues," according to Microsoft. Official Android compatibility is only expected "in the coming months," once testing is finished.

Microsoft has provided a setup guide to facilitate configuring e-mail clients. The iOS procedure involves adding an Exchange account via the Settings menu, and inserting the same Hotmail address into both the Email and Username fields. The server must be specifically set as m.hotmail.com.

Good job being 3 years late to support your own technology, Microsoft-owned hotmail.
