App downloads prepare to overwhelm song sales

Trend not helpful to developers?
App downloads should match and actually surpass song downloads at the iTunes Store sometime this year, says asymco. The analysis and production firm notes that during Apple's September 1st press event, the company released new growth statistics, indicating downloads of over 6 billion apps. asymco remarks that apps have managed to achieve in two years what for music took five.
If the App Store's growth persists, presently at a rate of about 200 downloads per second, both it and the Music Store should reach 13 billion downloads by the end of 2010. The news may not necessarily be good for iOS developers; while roughly 70 percent of apps are paid titles, some studios have complained that people are unwilling to pay much more than a dollar, and that it can be difficult to make a living without having an app in a top 10 position. Conversely, very little music content on iTunes is free outside of podcasts.

big deal
Wow, comparing apples to cement blocks and going "Look, it's even better than apples!".
You've got a one-stop shop for apps compared to having many different sources for music. And, guess what: Music and apps are nothing alike. I would hazard the customer base is actually fairly different as well.
The only thing that even allows for comparison is that both are sold through the iTMS. That's it.
Hey, let's compare how app sales are trouncing Video sales! Yeah! That'll show that, um, I don't know, but I'm sure it will show something!
