iTunes Store suffers from continuing credit card rejections

Issue blamed on high load

A number of visitors to the iTunes Store have had a hard time trying to download anything in recent weeks, talk on Apple's support forums indicates. Attempting to buy or update an app, for example, will potentially trigger an error message, telling people their credit card is declined and to enter valid information. Updating the appropriate account data may produce a verification error, leaving people in the same situation as before.

The situation has been ongoing since at least late August, and for many does not have any resolution in sight. Some people are allegedly being told by Apple that a fix is in the works, and that the issue is attributable to high load volume. Others have suggested that the problem is linked to the IP from which a person tries to make a purchase, particularly if they are overseas but relying on a US iTunes account. It may be possible to get individual accounts fixed with complaint e-mails to Apple support.

    Same here

And not just with purchases via iTunes, or app updates. Also could not purchase via Apple TV. Nothing wrong with the card.

I thought it was due to an ongoing investigation

I understand that the U.S. is looking into a credit card fraud ring based in a S.E. Asian country and using foreign nationals in the U.S. The secret service has sent agents and I believe they are working closely with Apple to track them down. As part of this MANY (all?) iTunes accounts in the country have been frozen, one of the major newspapers has reported on this.

I live here and spoke with one of the agents. However, I do not know why this issue should effect Americans not living abroad in this country or not of this nationality. I myself had a great deal of trouble because of this block on my account but because I was very (politely) persistent and I am involved with Apple professionally, I managed to get my account reinstated.
