Allow in-app photo capture

Apple's FileMaker division has posted a new version of FileMaker Go for the iPhone and iPad, v1.1. The app lets users update FileMaker Pro and Server databases, locally or remotely, and over Wi-Fi or 3G. New is the ability to generate PDFs of reports, invoices and other documents from within the app, which can then be saved or e-mailed to others.

Users can also save a complete database file and e-mail it, which eliminates the need to sync with a computer. iPhone owners can now capture and insert photos directly; iPad owners are limited to inserting images from the tablet's photo library. Spreadsheets and other files can likewise be inserted.

Miscellaneous improvements include the ability to import records from local or hosted FileMaker databases using script steps, or to force iOS devices to log back in if they've recently gone to sleep. For developers, an updated URL protocol allows specifying a FileMaker Pro script and parameters. The iPhone version of Go costs $20, while the iPad edition is $40.
