Apple Remote 2 revamps for iPad and newer devices

After a prolonged wait, Apple today posted Remote 2.0 (free, App Store). The controller app is now universal and supports the extra screen area of the iPad. Apple's device now also recognizes the extra resolution of the iPhone 4 and fourth-generation iPod touch and supports the new Apple TV as well as shared libraries.

As before, the app can remote control either an iTunes library or an Apple TV, including creating playlists on iTunes or entering text on an Apple TV instead of using the on-TV keyboard. Those with AirPlay (AirTunes) speakers can also adjust the volume independently on different sources and disable individual sources.

The app should be available in all App Store countries as of today.
