Bang & Olufsen unveils luxury iPad speaker dock

Bang and Olufsen BeoSound 8 plays iPads, iPhones

Bang & Olufsen today took the unusual step of developing a very high-end speaker dock tailored to the iPad. The BeoSound 8 cradles the iPad, as well as iPhones and iPods, in between two large, color-customizable conical speakers each with a pair of drivers and amplifiers at an unmentioned power level. Acousting tuning comes over from the Danish company's other speakers and, with a switch, alters the sound output to match the properties of the room.

The stereo has a wall mount to fit less obtrusively and supports both aux-in and USB connections for those who want to use other devices. Bang & Olufsen vows better than usual remote control: the included remote can steer USB devices, not just Apple devices, and those with the Beo4 or Beo5 remotes for other audio systems can have the same amount of control.

BeoSound 8 units should reach the luxury firm's resellers by the end of the month for about $1,490 in its native Denmark and $999 in the US.

    well

It's only $1000 in the US!

Though I'm not sure I would trust a dock to hold up an iPad without some back support (I don't trust them with iPods, either, so whatever).

Even for B&O this is strange

I have no doubt it sounds great, though I have yet to find a dock that sounds as good as the B&W Zeppelin. That product sounds amazing and is half the price of the B&O.
