Alternative headphones and a place to keep them
Tired of earbud tangling, Digital Group Audio (DGA) has brought its Zipbuds to market, an alternative headset for iPods and other devices that uses a zipper-integrated braided nylon cabling resist tangles and create a custom fit. Meanwhile, Extended Access has unveiled the BudCase, a keychain case to keep earbuds (or USB drives) handy when not in use and featuring a magnetic fastener.
Zipbuds ($40) offer a standard 20Hz-20kHz frequency response, but uses a technique the company calls "centralized acoustic ventilation" to minimize total harmonic distortion, and a set of noise-isolating angled eartips to reduce background distraction and provide a snug, comfortable fit (over-ear sport clips are also included). The product comes in five color choices, and the zipper-ized cable is extremely lightweight with a gold-plated audio jack on the end for a secure connection to your device. These headphones do not support microphone or remote-control functions, but can be unzipped to create sufficient length to "share" an earphone with a friend.
Third time's the charm for BudCase ($13), which is aimed at people who are frequently forgetting to bring their earbuds with them. The case is simply a faux-leather compact holder with a keychain clip and a magnetic fastener good for storing earbuds or up to two USB thumb drives in a spot where users are least likely to leave them behind. According to the web site, BudCase is available in "four vibrant colors - Black, Black, Black and Black."
Zipbuds are available from Amazon or directly from the company. BudCase 3 is available directly from their web site, and includes free shipping.
