Leak: Beatles coming to iTunes tomorrow

Beatles said locked for iTunes

The Beatles will be the center of Apple's iTunes news on Tuesday, a major leak may have confirmed today. Talks running as late as last week between Apple, the Beatles and EMI should have Apple announcing that the band's catalog will "soon" be on Apple's store. The WSJ sources didn't discover the conditions and whether it would be an iTunes exclusive for now, though neither Amazon nor other major stores have mentioned the news.

None of the involved companies have confirmed the deal, but Billboard magazine has said it has its own reasons to believe a deal is in place. Music industry sources that normally would rejected the idea of a deal have grown silent, and other reasons have also come up, the trade publication said.

Yoko Ono has lately tried to downplay expectations for a deal, but both Apple and the group have been eager to negotiate a deal since the end of the trademark dispute between Apple Corps and Apple Computer (now Apple Inc.). Among the problems have been catalog ownership split between labels, the desire to wait on last year's remastering of the collection and even Sir Paul McCartney's divorce from Heather Mills.

Early inroads into digital have shown signs that the group has been moving to digital, as it got its music into Beatles: Rock Band and self-published a USB drive with the collection. Apple also had an indirect overlap as its well-known iPhone introduction at Macworld 2007 saw it use the Beatles catalog frequently for samples. Company CEO Steve Jobs has readily identified himself as a Beatles fan.

A chance exists that the deal could fall apart at the last minute, the rumor suggested, though this isn't likely now that Apple has committed itself to news on Tuesday.

    I swear...

I hope this is not the "huge" announcement. A day that i'll never forget with be the Beatles In digital Format? If so, that day has long since passed, as ThePirateBay has had all the albums for years...

Should it really be annouunced cause they were so late to the game?

The 60's & 70's are over. To quote a once famous band... "Let it be"

c'mon - please stop it with the nonsense

Surely this can't be the centerpiece of Apple's Tuesday announcement. Given the build-up one would think they'll be announcing something really significant.

Being able to buy Beatles tunes in iTunes, that have been available on CD forever, is a yawner. I think I already have their entire catalog.

This is certainly not what I'm looking for

as a groundbreaking announcement. Streaming yes, Beatles no. They might as well remaster Mozart's works if that's the case. Most iTunes users probably weren't even alive at the time I was a teen watching them on the Ed Sullivan show. You can only remaster songs but so many times or it'll be just like reheating french fries over and over until they become golden bricks.

How about being able to stream every song and video you've got on iTunes to every iOS device you own no matter where you are and for free? That would be sweet. I know that Orb can do that much so why not iTunes?

You have got to be kidding me?

Really, how many people really care anymore about bring the Beatles into iTunes? How many would buy their music AGAIN just for the privilege of buying it through iTunes?

This would make the Apple announcement very forgettable in my opinion.

    Bet you'll be surprised!

I believe Apple will surprise us with something not mentioned here. Maybe a bunch if things. My bet - e-mail via iTunes. It's a logical next step. Just 'sayin!

    If this is true

If this is true and the Beatles are the center of this Monumental Announcement I think I will simply sell off my iPhone and iPod and search my attic for my lovely Minidisc collection....because it means that the end of all that is sane has come and gone.

Who gives a damn at this point? I grew up with the Beatles and really could care less. Anyone can just go to a used record/ CD shop and buy the music cheap and rip it to a computer.

Apple....PLEASE tell me this truly isn't the BIG ToDo scheduled for tomorrow!!!
