Fills gap in store's technical categories

Books from Pearson and Peachpit are now appearing at the US iBookstore, a report observes. Both publishers specialize in technical titles. Some of the brands under Pearson include Addison Wesley, Cisco Press, IBM Press, Prentice Hall and Pearson IT Certification. Subjects range from Apple hardware and development through to online marketing and web design.

Peachpit is notable for publishing the Apple Training Series, books used in courses for Apple Certification. The iBookstore versions are observed to be heavily discounted. Mac OS X Support Essentials v10.6 -- normally $58 in paperback or $47 in Adobe Reader format -- is only $35 at the iBookstore. Books covering topics outside of Apple are available as well, such as ones documenting Adobe software.

Together the new publishers fill in a shortage at the iBookstore's Computers and Internet section. The service may need the help; although launched with fanfare in tandem with the iPad, the iBookstore is believed to be a minor player next to Amazon's Kindle platform. It also faces lesser competition from the likes of Kobo and Barnes & Noble's Nook.

    figures on ebook marketshare?

Where can I find a reliable breakdown by platform on the ebook market today? The Kindle's the top dog here, but I'm curious how the iBookstore and the Nook compare.
