Still waiting on iOS 4.2 update

Ecamm has launched Printopia, a new Mac printing app. The software tricks iOS 4.2 devices into recognizing any Mac printer as an AirPrint-compatible device. Users can additionally direct files to "virtual" printers, for instance output as a JPG or PDF file on a Mac. Another option includes printing to a Dropbox folder for online sync purposes.

The software costs $10, and requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later. A free seven-day demo version is also available. iOS 4.2 has yet to become available through iTunes, however, and so Printopia is only currently useful for people with access to the iOS 4.2 gold master, intended for developers.

    Hmmm....

A similar app was promoted earlier today, FingerPrint, that allowed you to print to regular printers hooked to Macs and/or Airport.

It would seem a foregone conclusion that iOS 4.2 will not have AirPrint available for typical printers with these types of programs popping up. Perhaps temporary solutions for the inevitable AirPrint for any shared printer, but nonetheless, somewhat indicative of what 4.2 will NOT have upon release.
