Among largest iOS apps ever released
Cyan Worlds has released an iPhone/iPod version of Riven, an adventure game originally launched in 1997. A sequel to Myst, players explore the Age of Riven solving puzzles in order to rescue Atrus' wife, Catherine. The game retains all of the original content, including movies and animations.
Though scaled down from DVD size, the game is one of the largest iOS apps currently available, a 1.01GB download. Cyan also warns that the game requires about 2GB of space on a device during the installation process, and that sync times can be extremely long, potentially pausing for as much as 10 or 15 minutes on older iOS devices. People are cautioned against downloading directly to a handheld.
Enhancements over the original game include hotspot hints, Game Center compatibility and multi-touch controls for navigation and zoom. Multitasking is supported in iOS 4, and players can either save progress manually or rely on an auto-save mechanism. Cyan is selling Riven for $6.
