Rush of illustrated titles accompanies iBooks 1.2 update

Area generally unexploited in tablets
Over 100 illustrated books have been added to the iBookstore in tandem with the release of iBooks 1.2, says the New York Times. These are spread across several different genres, including cooking, photography and children's books. Some notable titles include Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc at Home, a photo collection by Ansel Adams and the Olivia series of picture books.
Some of the publishers putting out illustrated titles include Disney, Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan and Workman. Another party, Simon & Schuster, notes that the company has been interested in doing picture e-books for some time, but that color has been the major obstacle. The only major tablets with color at present include the iPad, Nook Color and Galaxy Tab.
Simon & Schuster adds that by early next year, it hopes to have illustrated e-books release at the same time as their print equivalents. An important difference in the iBooks treatment of illustrated titles is the ability to see both pages of a spread at the same time. Prior to v1.2, however, books were limited to using inline images, imposing restrictions not seen in some other e-book apps.
