Could support Movies and Calendar
The iPod nano has been hacked to allow the device to boot with modified files. In this instance, the file that has been modified is the Springboard Plist. While the device has not been jailbroken, the work around could open up the door to the device being rooted. This could then lead to redundant movie capabilities and applications like the Calendar, carry over code from the firmware used on the previous generation iPod nano, being re-enabled.
Developer and hacker James Whelton explains that in accessing the Springboard Plist, he discovered that the device’s other Plists reference support for movies, TV shows, Apps, Games, vCards, and iCal events.
Whelton expects to post details of his hack in the next few days so that the hacker community can get to work on the device. [via Macstories]

Yeah iCal!
Yeah, iCal on a nano. I couldn't manage my life without iCal on my iPhone and iPod touch. Nano owners need that too.
Apple's been as clueless as Amazon is about the universal appeal of productivity applications. The Kindle could easily handle calendar and to-do list apps and nothing would sell nano to kids through parents like a way to include a calendar app to keep little Susie from forgetting her piano practice.
But, alas, all Amazon sees the Kindle doing is reading or playing slow-paced games. And all the Apple can see the Nano doing is entertaining. One practical, productivity feature would over-ride a lot of "but this isn't practical" sales resistance.
