Four-, five-fingered gestures not in final OS

Apple has posted a second beta of iOS 4.3 for developers by way of the iOS Dev Center. Any new features and code references are so far undiscovered, but the release is accompanied by matching versions of Xcode and the Apple TV firmware. Still missing is support for running v4.3 on the iPhone 3G or second-gen iPod touch, suggesting that Apple is indeed leaving v4.2.1 as the last iOS update for the devices.

The company has also informed developers that the four- or five-finger gestures introduced in the first beta will not make it into public code. "This feature will not be enabled in iOS 4.3 for customers, but we are providing this preview to gather input on how these gestures work with your apps," Apple says. People with access to the beta can pinch to jump to the homescreen, swipe to one side to switch apps, or swipe up to bring up the task switcher.
