Apple potentially driving for quick release

Apple is already planning to release a third beta of iOS 4.3, which should come out later today, a source at Apple claims. Although the code is allegedly using the build number 8F5166b, nothing is so far known about the content of the update. It would represent the third beta in as many weeks, however, suggesting that Apple is bent on making the firmware available as quickly as possible.

Last night the company published iOS 4.2.6, despite the fact that the release is explicitly aimed at the Verizon iPhone, which will not ship until February 10th. The completed v4.3 update is expected to carry many of the same features over to regular GSM-based iPhones, such as personal hotspots. A third beta could help expose more of Apple's future hardware and software roadmap; the second pre-release, for example, hinted at an iPod touch-like camera arrangement.
