Second Xcode 4 gold master accompanies iOS 4.3 release

Hold on final software unexplained

In parallel with the release of the iOS 4.3 gold master, Apple is also seeding a second Xcode 4 GM, developers say. The software is identified as build 4A304a, and accessible by registered Mac or iOS coders. People beta-testing Mac OS X Lion must install a separate set of tools.

Although Apple has sometimes released multiple gold masters of software in the past, the practice is rare, as a GM is normally supposed to be identical to the final release. Developers suggest that the original Xcode 4 GM was extremely buggy, sometimes crashing many times a day. Xcode 4 does incorporate a variety of enhancements over v3 however, such as a primarily single-window interface, and fix-it, which identifies flawed code in real-time.
