AKG outs wireless Bluetooth, Kleer headphones

Harman Audio's sub-brand AKG has just launched two new wireless, over-the-air headphones in the K 840 KL and K 830 BT. The former uses Kleer wireless technology to stream lossless audio from compatible players including iPods and iPhones. The latter uses Bluetooth for wireless streaming.

The K 840 KL headphones use a 2.4GHz radio to transmit 16-bit stereo audio. Range is farther than Bluetooth's, at 65 feet. Battery life is also greater, rated at up to 28 hours of continuous use. Volume can be adjusted from earcup-mounted controls.

The K 830 BT set has controls that can adjust volume but also pause, play or skip tracks, answer and end phone calls while having a conversation thanks to a built-in microphone. Battery life is eight hours, while the range is Bluetooth's usual 33 feet.

The K 830 BT headphones cost $250, with the Kleer version priced at $300. Both are now available.
