Money goes to American Red Cross
In the wake of Friday's 9.0 earthquake in northern Japan and the subsequent tsunami, Apple has set up a donation portal on iTunes. Visitors can donate in $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or $200 increments. The company claims that "100 percent" of each donation will go to the American Red Cross, which is offering assistance to its Japanese equivalent.
People are warned that the only record of a donation will come in the form of an e-mail receipt, and later an entry on a credit card statement. Apple Japan has meanwhile posted a message on its website. "To those who have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami, we send sympathies from our heart. In this deep sadness, we are praying for the victims and their families," the site reads.

please be aware
that when you donate to the American Red Cross, your donation to aid Japan will NOT go into a separate fund dedicated solely to Japanese earthquake aid. It goes into the RC's general funds and they decide independently of that, how much to help in any given situation where aid is needed.
I'm not saying you shouldn't help, you should and the Red Cross is a worthy organization. Just saying that you can't really know that your gift will directly aid the Japanese, some part of it surely will but likely not 100%.
