Facebook support deepens

Alphonso Labs has released v2.0 of Pulse News Mini, the iPhone version of its newsfeed reader. The update makes several major changes, most notably in terms of speed, as images and sources should load as much as three times faster. Scrolling actions in the app are said to be substantially smoother.

The app also includes a larger number of stock news sources; whereas the previous version came with only 20, v2.0 has 60, such as Make, Lifehacker and Simply Recipes. Feed pages can be automatically populated with "packs" of news sources according to categories such as politics or finance. In terms of social networks users can now like, share and comment on items in their Facebook feed. Other social options include YouTube, Vimeo, Digg, Reddit and Hacker News.

Tweaks to search show the most added news feeds with images and more relevant titles. Better Google Reader support ensures that when a story is read offline, the change is synced when an Internet connection returns.

Pulse News Mini is a free download for devices running iOS 3.1.3 or later. The iPad version of the app, Pulse News Reader, was updated to v2.2 in February.
