Includes some 1,400 videos so far

Cable channel HBO has officially launched HBO GO, its long-promised iOS app. The title provides remote access to HBO for existing subscribers, and so far has over 1,400 videos including movies, recurring series and sports programming. This includes some of the most popular series, such as Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and The Wire.

Category buttons let users pick the genre of programming, and in some cases further filter results, for instance by showing every series, only featured episodes, or "family" content. Videos can be added to a Watchlist for later viewing. A related option is the Series Pass, which automatically populates a Watchlist.

The app is a free download, but requires an iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, or third- or fourth-generation iPod touch. It is moreover US-only, despite HBO's presence elsewhere. It operates over both 3G and Wi-Fi; Wi-Fi is recommended given the demands of streaming video.
