iPod nano 7 shows again with camera hole

Rumors of an iPod nano 7 with a camera gained more credibility Tuesday with another leaked production sample. The new version is still in forest green but this time showed the back, where a hole has been cut in the back and no clip was visible. Apple.pro's source, "Ray" from California, also said the camera had been upgraded from the one-megapixel camera in the iPod touch and iPad 2 to 1.3 megapixels.

Details of the camera's functionality are still unknowns, including whether or not it will shoot still photos. The fifth-generation iPod nano was the only non-iOS iPod to have a camera but was limited to video, ostensibly due to hardware limits. Adding the clip to the iPod nano 6 made it much more convenient for runners and other listeners but also made it impractical to include a camera.

No other details of the new nano have emerged, but it's presumed there will be a capacity update as well as a new set of colors.

The Taiwanese site's leak isn't confirmed, but it has historically shown pre-release iPods and is likely accurate. Apple regularly holds a special media event in or near September with the iPod as a focus, and the new nano is considered near certain to appear. [via AppleInsider]

    Really?

I don't even think the touch screen iPod Nano is that functional as a music player, but at least the clip made it easy to use for on-the-go music listening (which is what the Nano is all about anyway). Why in the world you need to have a camera on a micro music player is beyond me. What, so you can take a quick photo of yourself doing squats at the gym? I have said this before and I will continue to say it, I want a music player for the gym or when running in the park that is small, easy to use (e.g. a click wheel, not a touch screen), and inexpensive since I am probably going to drop it many times. Why do I want to add the extra expense of a camera onto my micro music player? What am I, James Bond, super spy?

    Gotta agree!

I do have to agree with you there - I hardly see the benefit to a camera on the nano. It's an iPod that I want to be able to clip on and play music with. That's about it. If I want anything more feisty, I'd get an iPod Touch, or an iPod Classic.
