Adds fuel to iPhone 5 launch debate

Just hours ahead of the kickoff of WWDC 2011, Wal-Mart representatives have sent an email announcing a sale on the iPhone 4 until the end of June. The $50 price reduction brings the cost of a new iPhone 4 to $147 with a two year contract with either AT&T or Verizon. It is unclear whether the sale is merely intended to stimulate demand for the iPhone 4 or an indication that the iPhone 5 launch is near.

    Walmart Return Policy

I buy a lot of stuff from WalMart, but I will never buy another phone from WalMart.

Last Christmas I purchased my daughter an iPhone 4 16gb, 300 miles away from my daughters home. She wanted the 32gb model so I stopped by a local WalMart and discovered they don't carry the 32gb model, but the problem was that they would not allow a refund at any store other than the exact store I bought it from. It was unopened, but that did not make any difference. I had to drive 300 miles each way to return to the original WalMart that I bought it from in order to return it for a refund. The only local store near my daughters home that had the 32gb instock was Best Buy, and I discovered they don't have the same restrictions, you can return it to any Best Buy store in the country.

wow that is CRAZY. That's one of the reasons people buy from national chains, not mom-and-pop local stores... you can (or should be able to) return items to ANY store.

Yet another reason not to do business with Wal-Mart.

must be something unique about iPhone

I bought an HDTV from Wal-Mart (first mistake...) which turned out to be a POS as far as the features which convinced me to choose it. I had no issues returning it to a completely different store, I even made a couple bucks on the deal because the credit to my Visa figured the sales tax at the location where I returned it, not where I bought it...

Um, have you not heard of the Apple Store. Just order it and have it shipped directly to them. Geesh.
