BlackBerry Curve holds surprise second place

The iPhone remains the most targeted mobile platform when it comes to advertising, quarterly data from Millennial Media shows. Apple has held the position since 2009, when most high-ranking devices on the list were basic feature phones. All devices in the top 20 are now smartphones, and dominated by Google's Android platform, which represents more than two-thirds of the top hardware. Ranking second in terms of ad impressions however is RIM's BlackBerry Curve, in spite of RIM's general decline in the smartphone world.

When ranking solely in terms of manufacturers, Apple holds a 30.76 percent share of ad impressions, while Samsung is in second at 14.94 percent. RIM occupies third place with 11.76 percent. Other companies in the current top 10 include HTC, Motorola, LG, Nokia, Huawei, Sanyo and Sony Ericsson. Samsung and LG notably occupied first and second place in a 2009 study, with Apple taking third at the time.

Millennial bases its information on its own network traffic. The company is one of the more prominent mobile advertising firms however, making for a relatively reliable barometer.

"The iPhone remains the most targeted mobile platform when it comes to advertising, quarterly data from Millennial Media shows."

This is wrong. Based on /platform/, Android is the most targeted. According to the Millennial’s data, Android has 53% of impressions; iOS has 27%. Of course, that percentage looks different if you look at it per-device, but the article and headline were discussing platforms.

It's unfortunate that this site continues to skew and distort data to suit its ideological bias.

Unfortunately no one can really figure out what their bias is, because if you ask the iOS/Mac fanboy crowd, they'd say the site pushes an anti-apple agenda too often.
