Foursquare teams with others on event check-ins

Foursquare just revealed that it will add specific events to its popular check-in app. For example, users will now have the option to select the movie they're seeing when they check in to a local movie theater. This translates to concerts and other events as well.

To achieve this, Foursquare teamed with ESPN on sports events, MovieTickets.com and Songkick for concerts. ESPN will provide details about the game in addition to event details. MovieTickets will provide showtimes, movie summaries and links for more information. Between them all, there are hundreds of thousands of events and over 50,000 venues. Users no longer have to manually enter what they're doing at the event they participate in.

The outfit tried this out at the SXSW conference earlier this year, though on a smaller scale.

The updated app is now on the iPhone (App Store), and coming soon to other platforms.
