IE10 for Metro Windows to drop plugins, Flash for HTML5

Sites that rely on plugins will get work-around

Dean Hachamovithch, Microsoft's Internet Explorer team leader stated in a blog post that the Metro-style version of Internet Explorer 10 will not support Flash or other plugins and will rely on HTML5. Hachamovithch said running Metro style IE plugin free would have advantages for consumers, including improved battery life, enhanced security and privacy, and greater stability. Steve Jobs, chairman of Apple, listed many of the of these same reasons for his decision early on to not support Flash in iOS.

IE 10 will be available as both a Metro-style app and as a desktop app in Windows 8. The Metro-style app will give users the ability to switch to the desktop version with a single mouse click.

Steven Sinofsky, president, Windows and Windows Live Division, underscored the magnitude of the change by calling the browser the "most-used tool in Windows."

IE 10 will support sites that were designed for older browsers or require plugins by forcing the browser into compatibiilty mode, which mimics older versions of Internet Explorer. The list of websites that still require legacy plugins or compatibility mode includes monster.com, Bank of America, Sports Illustrated, Slashgear and Mashable, among others.

    adobe needs to evolve

i hope the adapt flash soon. The software is a fantastic platform for animation and interaction. honestly, other than handcoding and endless media assets, can anyone name a better tool for what flash is meant to do? if you can i would love to try it.

stupid adobe has allowed swfs to get too bloated and and the plugin is so hated. its a shame.

    Adobe flash vs. html 5

Creating a decent animation on html 5 is a joke. It's like back to GIF animation all over again. To really push html 5 to behave like Flash, it's like Flash FLA on the loose..... massive assets are all over the places and it bog down CPU big time plus animation is like 1 frame per second. It's no better than Flash's CPU hog. They are all depending on how many layers and movement are going at the same time equals to how much CPU will be utilized.

    Really?

plus animation is like 1 frame per second

Any proof or evidence on this? That's simply not the case in my testing.
