Titles permit downloading, email sharing

Online backup service CrashPlan, run by Code 42, has released its first apps for iOS and Android devices. The titles let users browse, download and view compatible files stored in CrashPlan accounts, and share them with others using emailed links. The iOS apps include a viewer compatible with a selection of formats such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPEG, TIFF and MP3. On Android, any file can be opened so long as a compatible third-party app is present.

If a person has downloaded any files through one of the CrashPlan apps, a single button can be tapped to update local files with newer versions present in an online backup.

All of the apps are free, and come in regular (iOS, Android) and PRO (iOS, Android) editions, depending on the type of CrashPlan account a person has. Code 42 warns, though, that any files protected with enhanced security cannot be accessed in the current apps. The iOS titles are universal ones designed for both iPhones and iPads.
