Vers 7E boosts in-ear wood headphones

Vers took its uncommon wood-enclosed, in-ear headphones upmarket on Friday through the 7E Its design has a smaller 8mm driver in each ear than the 1E but have newly optimized acoustic chambers and drivers to improve bass response. The core performance is similar on paper with a low 18Hz frequency floor (up to 20kHz) and a relatively good 114dB signal-to-noise ratio.

The combination of the in-ear design and wood potentially leads to sound properties that don't come across with metal or plastic earbuds. The 7E has an in-line mic and remote to give iPad, iPhone, and iPod owners control over calls and music.

A launch is only listed as "coming soon," but a pair will cost $70 in either a more environmentally friendly bamboo or in walnut. Vers hopes to ease consciences by planting 100 trees for every one it has to use to make headphones.
