Suggests Touch may only get cosmetic changes
Entries for slightly modified iPhone 4s and iPod touches are showing up in Apple's inventory system, an anonymous source says. The new iPhone models are reportedly identified with the codename N90A, linking them to the regular iPhone 4, the N90. The association may mean that the new SKUs are simply cheaper, 8GB iPhone 4s, rather than rumored iPhone 4S models, which would theoretically have the same amount of storage but a few upgrades, like faster processors.
Three new Touches share the codename N81A. The current fourth-generation Touch is the N81, and so the SKUs may simply be expected white versions of the black 8, 32 and 64GB players already on the market. Apple may be holding off on making significant upgrades because of the iPhone 5, which could theoretically lose some sales if an equivalent Touch was released simultaneously. New iPhones and iPods should be shown at an October 4th press event.
