Editing tech already in two third-party iPad apps
Aviary has launched its first iPad SDK, as well as several new API extensions, according to All Things Digital. The developer specializes in an image editing platform which third-party developers can insert into web and native mobile apps. The initial iPad apps to use the technology are Pic Collage and Flickr Studio, the latter being an unofficial title based mainly on the Flickr API.
Aviary is diverting focus away from its Flash-based web platform, CEO Avi Muchnick notes. The company is in fact no longer adding new features to its Flash suite, and concentrating on tools for iOS and Android developers. Companies will be able to change color schemes and add just the Aviary features they want, Muchnick elaborates.
As a downside however the company has fired almost all of its Flash developers, replacing them with mobile specialists. It has so far raised about $11 million in venture capital funding, the most recent round coming from Spark Capital and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. "Aviary doesn’t need to be a destination anymore," comments Muchnick. "We want to power all the photo creativity that happens online, and apps are how that will happen."
