Merges Lightroom-, Photo Stream-like concepts
Adobe has released promised Mac and iPad/iPhone clients for Carousel, its new cloud-based photo service. In a manner similar to Apple's Photo Stream, Carousel lets users sync photos across devices. Images can also be shared with friends and family however, and the Carousel apps permit non-destructive editing in a style similar to Adobe's Lightroom.
Editing options include cropping, brightness, saturation, and contrast, as well as some not necessarily found in basic editing apps, like vibrance, white balance and exposure correction. The non-destructive label refers to original images being preserved in case a user wants to revert back. When using a camera-equipped device, Carousel for iOS lets users take original photos from within the app.
Both pieces of software can also send photos via email, Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr, and invite others to add photos to a Carousel library. The apps are free downloads, requiring OS X 10.7 or iOS 4.2 respectively. The Carousel service, though, normally costs $99 a year, or $10 a month. At the moment Adobe is offering special launch prices set at $60 a year or $6 a month.
