Regularly scheduled downtime for developers

Apple has started informing developers about this year's regular iTunes Connect shutdown. For 2011 the service will be offline between December 22nd and the 29th, as usual coinciding with Christmas. iTunes Connect is used to manage titles submitted to the App Store, and so many developer activities will be temporarily suspended.

Both new and updated apps will not go live during the downtime; any submissions will only be posted after normal service resumes. Price changes will also be locked, and Apple in fact warns that trying to schedule one during the shutdown will leave an app unavailable for sale.

The shutdown will likely be foreshadowed by a glut of App Store activity. Developers are often keen to have iOS titles ready for Christmas, since people unwrapping new iPhones and iPads will often immediately turn to the App Store to make use of their gifts.
