Comes on the heels of free 'Submarine' book

Following yesterday's release of a free "children's" e-book exploring the world and story based on the 1968 Beatles film Yellow Submarine, Apple has posted a new ad to YouTube promoting the Beatles catalog on iTunes, in a spot seemingly intended to suggest the band's albums as a gift suggestion. The ad features a "fly-through" of the Beatles' 12 studio albums, from Please Please Me to Abbey Road.

Interestingly, the commercial uses the UK "core catalogue" releases and covers, which puts Abbey Road as the final album and omits a number of pseudo-albums put out by Capitol in the US (such as Meet the Beatles and Something New). Although Let It Be was the last record to be released officially, it was recorded before the sessions that resulted in Abbey Road.

The new ad uses a section of "Magical Mystery Tour" as its soundtrack. It concludes simply with "The Beatles on iTunes." The Beatles' selection on iTunes also includes a number of works outside the "core catalogue," including early recordings compiled in the Past Masters collection, the 1 greatest-hits collection, and the recent soundtrack for the Cirque De Soleil show "Love," which featured Sir George Martin's remixes of well-known Beatles songs.
